Andy Samberg - Joins a long line of SNL stars to go to the movies

This is my rant about people who think SNL doesn't produce stars. Andy's movie might not have been a hit, but he'll be back and he'll join this list of 38 other SNL stars to succeed in the movies.

This rant based on this article:

"Andy Samberg goes where so many of his fellow Saturday Night Live performers have gone before, trying to turn their late-night TV fame into stardom on the big screen. With a few blazing exceptions - Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Will Ferrell - most have failed, sometimes miserably."

I hope to see Andy Samberg join his friends on this list soon.

The bottom line is that Saturday Night Live has always pumped out talent, and it continues to do so. The fact that Lorne is helping get Andy into movies is a testament to Andy's future in film. He and the Lonely Island need to get a script together to pitch. I'm sure they made Hot Rod funnier than it would have been, but they need to start with a solid script in order to get people interested in the movie. They have to be interested in the characters and the jokes. While the jokes in the trailers made us smile, they didn't make us laugh. And the characters weren't strong enough to interest us.

So try again, Andy! Good luck!!!

Also, here's a short list of SNL movies from:

Q: How many movies have featured characters that originally appeared on "SNL"?

A: 17: "Mr. Mike's Mondo Video" (1979), "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Gilda Live" (1980), "Wayne's World" (1992), "Mo' Money" (1992), "Bob Roberts" (1992), "Mr. Saturday Night" (1992), "Coneheads" (1993), "Wayne's World 2" (1993), "It's Pat" (1994), "Casper" (1995), "Stuart Saves His Family" (1995), "Blues Brothers 2000" (1998), "A Night at the Roxbury" (1998), "Office Space" (1999), "Superstar" (1999), and "The Ladies Man" (2000).

On a side note, Michael had this interesting tidbit to say in his article:

"In the goofy Hot Rod, a movie originally planned for Ferrell and who remains an executive producer, the gangly Samberg shows he has charisma, even in this one-note role, another one of those child-man characters that moviemakers pandering to America's youth find so endearing. Ferrell has been a master of this kind of role, in movies ranging from Elf to Blades of Glory, and has yet to wear out his welcome."
