Andy Samberg - laughing in Scared Straight

So at the end of these Scared Straight skits, Jason Sudeikis typically tries to make Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan laugh.

So that's what this is... a capture of them laughing while trying to keep a straight face.

MTV News wonders if Andy Samberg is ready for his own Late Night show

Video version of this story:

Or the text:

The last two weeks of late night shows have been so great that it's easy to forget that, most of the time, those shows aren't all that amazing. For all the great things that David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien or anybody else have done, their shows are typically cycles through a handful of familiar tropes: The news-based monologue, the wacky interaction with the band leader, the piece of audience participation, the wacky off-set video package, two celebrity interviews and a musical performance. It's a predictable formula that has worked for years, but it's also just that: A formula. While "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" have shaken things up a bit, the late night scene is still flooded with stuff we've seen before.

It's also full of people we've seen before. Leno and Letterman have literally been on the air for decades — isn't it about time some new blood got injected into the after-hours game? (And we're not talking about Chelsea Handler.) Here are a few people who should really be given the opportunity to shine.

Andy Samberg
The guy already has experience hosting the MTV Movie Awards and has been the MVP of "Saturday Night Live" for the past few years. He's everything that's great about Fallon (the easy-going personality, the "Everyone's invited!" brand of humor, the willingness to look weird) without as much stammering.

Check out details on their other suggestions here:

Andy Samberg - is worth $14 million

I'm not sure how he got it so quickly (SNL doesn't pay all that well, and he's only starred in one movie), but boom, he managed to get it, according to Hollyworth...

Andy Samberg’s Net Worth (Dec 20, 2009)

Andy Samberg’s Net Worth is $14 million, and counting.

Date of Birth
18 August 1978, Berkeley, California, USA

Birth Name
David Andrew Samberg

5′ 10″ (1.78 m)

Mini Biography
A native of Berkeley, California, Samberg is one of three Los Angeles, California-based writer-performer-filmmakers–all childhood friends–dubbed the Lonely Island, whose short films were showcased on the popular untelevised television network show and Web site Channel Some of their popular shorts included “The O.C.” (2003) parody “The ‘Bu” and their full-length pilot, “Awesometown.” They met Jimmy Fallon while writing for MTV Video Music Awards 2004 (2004) (TV), who then suggested that they audition for “Saturday Night Live” (1975). Andy was then cast as a featured performer, and Samberg’s Lonely Island cohorts Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer were hired as writers for the show. The Office parodies Andy Samberg's Lazy Sunday

It was on Thursday's episode, 1/21/10. Thanks to the Anonys for the scoop!

Season 6 : Ep. 14|22:07

This was done 3 years ago, but we think this is the extended version that they showed in that episode (thanks viewdrix and anony)...

It's on at the very end of the episode, at about 20:30. It doesn't exactly fit with the episode, but the whole thing is sort of a mish-mash anyway. Michael and Dwight rap it out.

Andy Samberg at the Pee Wee Herman Show

Updated 1/30/10 with new pictures and some shots of Andy with Pee Wee from 07.

Here is Andy Samberg at the Pee Wee Herman Show on January 20th:

Thanks go out to Lydia for finding that first image. Here are some more...

Talking chairs, dancing bears and the residents of Puppet Land rose once again in Los Angeles on Wednesday night as comedian Paul Reubens resurrected his character Pee-wee Herman for a limited-run production of "The Pee-wee Herman Show" at Club Nokia.

A slew of celebs showed up to mark the occasion, including Ellen Page, Andy Samberg, David Arquette (dressed in tribute to the bubbly bow-tie aficionado), Marisa Tomei, Thomas Jane and "SNL" Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers.

Story excerpt from:

And here's Andy with Pee Wee back in 6/9/07 at a Spike awards show:

Sarah Palin and Glen Beck offer to co-host SNL

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin may have just made NBC an offer they can't refuse, after watching videos of Saturday Night Live sketches making fun of each of them.

"Sarah and I would like to make an offer to NBC," said Beck. "Would you like to make the offer?

"I think we should co-host." said Palin. "How could they say no?"

The two then made a personal wager between each other -- Beck saying that NBC won't accept, Palin saying that they will -- with the stake of the bet being a steak. Palin added: "I can envision episode after episode of things that I could mock myself."

Here's the video:

When Sarah was on, Andy Samberg did the Palin rap with Amy Poehler (he was an eskimo). So it would be interesting to see what he would do with her hosting.

Andy Samberg - is an Avatar (SNL skit)

Not only did Andy play a fake Avatar in Laser Cats, but he also played an Avatar in full makeup in a skit...

Avatar Chamber

Virtual sex gets awkward.

Sigourney Weaver ... Dr. Grace Augustine
Fred Armisen ... scientist
Bill Hader ... Jake Sully
Nasim Pedrad ... Neytiri
Andy Samberg ... Avatar Jake
Jason Sudeikis ... Norm Spellman

Jason Sudeikis knocks his Norm impression out of the park!

Seems like a shame that Andy and Nasim got in all that makeup and didn't get more air time. At least when Bill Hader was a Frankenstein in Firefly they had him on camera a lot longer.

Overall, I was glad to see Andy Samberg in four skits this week:
- Laser Cats 5
- Weekend Update: Larry The Goose
- Avatar Chamber
- Riley

Jon Hamm hosting SNL again on January 30th

According to Wikipedia, Jon Hamm is hosting SNL on January 30th. His musical guest will be Michael Bublé.

According to Anony, the announcement was also made on TV. Thanks, Anony!

Andy Samberg on Weekend Update: Larry the Goose part 2

Honoring the brave geese that history has forgotten.

I guess an anniversary to a story is good enough to bring back. Nice one, Andy.

Hilarious, as always. Love the name puns and the poem.

"I'm on TV!"

Since this is Andy's second appearance as Larry the Goose, this makes Larry Andy's 6th recurring character!

Here are all 6:

- Blizzard Man: 3 times (4 including a charity vid he did with Ludacris)
- Danny Hoover: 2 times (the kid commentator)
- Kuato: 2 times (from Total Recall)
- Larry the Goose: 2 times
- Out of Breath Jogger: 2 times
- T'Shane: 6 times (from Deep House Dish)

We added this Larry the Goose post to the list of Weekend Update appearances on the right.

Go here to see the Blizzard Man charity vid he did with Ludacris:

Andy Samberg in Riley (SNL skit)

Fred's Riley character: He's bold and brash and you'd better believe it.

I think this is Fred Armisen's attempt at a character like Kristen Wiig's Gilly.

Andy Samberg in Laser Cats 5 (with Sigourney Weaver & James Cameron)

James Cameron pitches the latest installment featuring Sigourney Weaver as Ripley.

The references abound to Avater, Aliens, and Titanic.

You can always tell how long Andy, Bill Hader, and TLI have been on SNL by how many Laser Cats they are up to... this is their fifth season.

Pretty funny, and it keeps the series fresh in this barage of film references. My favorite one was Andy's Avatar chamber gag.

What was your favorite part?

Hot Rod - Unreality's #9 comedy of the decade

9) Hot Rod

Quote: "Now I don’t want to say that kiss was hot, but if the b@n3r police are here, I need a lawyer!"

Click here for the full 20:

So I don't really agree with this list, but it's still impressive that Hot Rod made #9, beating out The Hangover, Office Space, Anchorman, Wedding Crashers, and more!

Thanks to Anony for the scoop!

Hot Rod - a hilarious movie that received terrible reviews

Hot Rod made #7 on this list, beating out Freddie Got Fingered, The Brothers Solomon, and Night at the Roxbury. I love that Billy Madison, Waiting, and Dirty Work also made this list.

Hot Rod features a lot of random, non-sequitor style humor, and the cast features some of the funniest guys working today. Danny McBride is batting 1.000 for his comedy career; the guy has yet to be unfunny in anything.

Rating: 38%

It's great that despite the poor reviews and box office, Hot Rod is hitting these lists. I hope it's doing well in DVD sales.

Andy Samberg to "appear" on Cartoon Network's Freaknik

Freaknik will air on Cartoon Network on March 21, 2010.

“Return of Freaknik” will premiere on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim in March 2010. According to Beyonce over at Atlanta’s Hot 107.9’s, Lil Wayne will be joined by a cast of other rappers’ voices including Rick Ross and David Banner as well as actor Andy Samberg of “Saturday Night Live.”

Excerpt from:

This fall, T-Pain will... play The Ghost of Spring Break, alongside Lil’ Wayne, Andy Samberg, and Rick Ross, on the [adult swim] special The Return of Freaknik, an animated ode to Atlanta’s infamous a$$-bash.

Excerpt from:

So Andy Samberg "appears" in the sense that he lends his voice. It seems to be a one-time special.

Andy Samberg - in this season's Sarah Silverman Program

Andy news is bolded below...

‘The Sarah Silverman Program’ is Finally Back! The Third Season Begins Thursday, February 4 on Comedy Central.

Welcome back to the wacky world of Sarah Silverman. Follow Sarah and the rest of the gang as she takes on pedophile vans, rigs a mayoral election, takes a stance on “Real Time with Bill Maher” and reconnects with her imaginary childhood friend (played by Andy Samberg), among other adventures in this irreverent new season. COMEDY CENTRAL’s hit series, “The Sarah Silverman Program,” returns for a third season with 10 all-new episodes beginning on Thursday, February 4 at 10:30 p.m. with a secondary run on Logo beginning Tuesday, February 9 at 10:30 p.m. The new “Important Things with Demetri Martin”/”The Sarah Silverman Program” block airs on Thursdays.

Sigourney Weaver SNL promo

Bill's is a big fan of Sigourney's sci-fi movies.

I have a feeling that we're going to watch an SNL episode devoted to Sigourney Weaver's sci-fi films. =^)

Earlier I wrongly predicted that Hader's Greg the alien skit would be done on the Charles Barkley episode (it made sense because Charles is a sports commentator). However, I'm predicting it again for this coming episode, since the alien character would be classic when set against Sigourney Weaver.

Anony2 had a great idea that Sigourney and Andy could do an Aliens spoof with Glirk! =^)

Andy Samberg in Scared Straight (with Charles Barkley)

Scared Straight from 1/9/10

Charles Barkley ... Marvin McIntosh
Bill Hader ... kid
Bobby Moynihan ... kid
Andy Samberg ... kid
Jason Sudeikis ... Officer Sikorsky
Kenan Thompson ... Lorenzo McIntosh

This is for real.

Barkley can't keep a straight face near the beginning. That's his second crack of the night (at least).

Bill Hader loses it on the wet willie. Bobby loses it when Kenan's behind him. It looks like Andy is trying to keep his face off the camera then too, because he seems to be smiling.

These skits are funny despite Kenan and the sexual jokes. It's funny just to look at their reactions.

This is the fourth Scared Straight:

11.15.2008 - Paul Rudd
03.14.2009 - Tracey Morgan
11.07.2009 - Taylor Swift
01.09.2010 - Charles Barkley

Andy Samberg is Danny Hoover in Inside the NBA

Show: Inside The NBA

AKA "Basketball Commentators"

Charles Barkley
Andy Samberg ... Danny Hoover
Jason Sudeikis ... Kevin Harlan

Nothing but the bottom of the net!

Barkley can't keep a straight face at the beginning.

Amusing, but not hilarious. This is Andy's second time he's used this Danny Hoover character. The first time was with Jeremy Piven and Jason Sudeikis (Jason was playing Phil Simms instead of Kevin Harlan) on 01.20.2007.

Andy Samberg - as Nicholas Cage on Weekend Update

Update: Andy as Nicholas Cage

Nicholas Cage is on the hunt for treasure.

"Switch faces with me Seth!"

I'm actually looking forward to Sorcerer's Apprentice. This was hilarious!

Andy and Seth are great together!

Andy's first time he did a Nicholas Cage impression was earlier this season in a The View skit, 11.07.2009, with Taylor Swift as Kate Gosselin.

He nailed it. Truly one of his greatest impressions.

The only other SNL player to do an impression of Nicholas Cage is Jimmy Fallon in a Jeopardy skit, on 03.20.1999.

Andy Samberg in Ski Retreat (SNL skit)

Sketch: Ski Retreat

A ski bunny tries to turn up the heat.

Charles Barkley ... Mr. Jergs
Will Forte ... guy
Andy Samberg ... guy
Jenny Slate ... Gretchen
Kenan Thompson ... guy
Kristen Wiig ... Shana

Andy and the dudes support Kristen's Shana character. This is Kristen's second Shana skit.

First: 12.06.2008 with John Malkovich. Casey Wilson played Jenny's role (different characters though). The three dudes (Will, Kenan, and Andy) were the same. Jimmy Fallon had Kristen on his show and told her that the Shana character was his favorite one she did.

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Andy Samberg in Booty Call - with Alicia Keys

From the Charles Barkley episode, 1/9/10.

SNL Digital Short: Booty Call

Alicia Keys
Abby Elliott ... friend
Bobby Moynihan ... friend
Andy Samberg ... Lionel
Jenny Slate ... friend
Kristen Wiig ... grandma

A late night booty call gets interesting.

The ending is hilarious!

I was expecting a music video with Andy and Alicia, but this was perfect! What do you think?

SNL 1/9/10 - Caitlin's review

"Saturday Night Live" welcomed the new decade with a duo of seasoned "SNL" vets, featuring basketball star Charles Barkley and R&B diva Alicia Keys in the show's first episode of 2010.

Barkley, who last hosted the show in 1993 alongside musical guest Nirvana...

Barkley took a turn poking fun at himself, starring in a skit about getting professional help to fix his golf swing and joking about getting "arrested," a nod to his Jan. 2009 drunk-driving bust...

Barkley also joined "SNL" vets in several show mainstays, playing second banana to Kenan Thompson's trash-talking prison interrogator in "Scared Straight" as he wore a Don King-style gray wig and polyester uniform and joining Kristen Wiig in the "Shanna at the Ski Lodge" sketch...

Keys, who hosted in 2001 with actress Reese Witherspoon, also took her turn on the "SNL" comedy circuit, joining Andy Samberg in the "Booty Call" digital short that saw Keys seduce the flamboyant, socially awkward Samberg over the phone...

Next Saturday's episode will feature "Avatar" star and "SNL" hosting alum Sigourney Weaver and first-time musical guest the Ting Tings.

Is Andy Samberg's Mark Wahlberg impression "played out?"

ZOË RICE: Andy Samberg and the animals. It’s all fine and cute. I can’t imagine anyone going gaga over this sketch, but it’s a better end to the evening than the previous one, that’s for sure.

HOWARD MEGDAL: Enjoyable enough. This one might be played out, though.

STEVE MURPHY: Cute as usual. Not laugh out loud funny, but a nice, short little dessert to a pretty funny Christmas show!

Excerpt from:

What do you think? Is this skit played out? I think it was still great, but I think Andy could mix it up a little better than this and make it a little fresher and more different (but still good).

Andy Samberg & Charles Barkley - SNL Promo

So these were "normal" jokes by Andy and not the "awesome" jokes he sometimes prepares for in advance (usually involving creative edits or effects). For example, check out his Blake Lively, Megan Fox, and Shia Labeouf promos he did over on the right. We added this one to the list. ---->

These were still funny though. What do you think?

Charles Barkley SNL Promo (with Jason Sudeikis)

So what will it be like with a former sports star and current sports caster (commentator) hosting SNL?

Here's a taste:

Jason's bit at the end is hilarious! That's far more useful! The other two weren't amazing, but they were still cute and funny. Great job Jason!

What will Andy Samberg and the SNL cast do with Charles Barkley (and don't forget that Sigourney Weaver is next week, and John Hamm is rumored)?

Well, this week, like this promo, we should expect a LOT of basketball jokes and scenarios. I also expect Charles to appear as sports guest on on Bill Hader's "Greg is not an alien" show (called "Game Time with Randy and Greg), seing how that's also a sports show (it was last shown on 10/17/09 with Gerard Butler, so that's enough of a time lapse for a repeat).

Side note: The "Game Time" show was originally debuted on the 3/7/09 episode with The Rock. The show was called, "Game Time with Dave and Greg," where The Rock was Dave Delmonte, and Kenan played another commentator, Randy Dukes. Since they wanted to repeat the skit, they changed it to make the show focus on the SNL players, so Kenan became the co-anchor to Greg, and his character was promoted. In the second version (on 10/17/09), the show was called "Game Time with Randy and Greg" instead. So if they did the skit a third time this week, then Charles Barkley might play himself as a guest commentator on the show.

Did Andy Samberg hit it right with The Tizzle Wizzle show?

ZOË RICE: Is the short sending up Yo Gabba Gabba here? I’ve never seen it, but I would imagine it’s something like this, and perhaps I would be struck more if I got the reference. I smiled by the time we got to knives and pills, and James Franco hit the right chord at the end. I’m not gushing about this short, but it’s okay.

HOWARD MEGDAL: It was also short enough to revel in the absurdity.

STEVE MURPHY: If every sketch was this funny, SNL would be the best show on TV. Way out there, surreal, fast, a single great idea done smoothly and well. Andy Samberg just gets it completely right sometimes.

Excerpt from:

I agree that this was great, and it wasn't a "normal" musical digital short, even though it relied on a song. This is further proof that TLI should get their own show.

What do you think?

Where to get Andy Samberg's Tizzle Wizzle jammies

Some of our Anonies found out where you can find Andy Samberg and James Franco's pajamas from the Tizzle Wizzle Show! Thank you, Anonies! (Maybe there is even a Target coupon code available for JAMMIES.)

From the Anonnies:

The "JAMMIES" that Andy is wearing can be found at Target.

The "JAMMIES" that Andy wears in the short can be found in the women's pajama section [of Target]. They have a front zipper.

I'm pretty sure that the ones James is wearing are from Target too. Women's pajama section too. I think the ones that James is wearing has some kind of [bottom] flap.

Thanks again Anonies, for checking it out and getting us the info! Go to Target Andy fans! Swoop in! Attack!

What's your favorite Andy Samberg face?

These faces were originally assembled by Madison at Unreality Magazine...

Making the ugliest face you physically can for the amusement of others is a great move. We do it a lot when we’re little kids, but most of us tend to grow out of it eventually. It’s a shame, because even though making an ugly face is about as simple a “joke” someone can make, making ugly faces is a talent that should be celebrated regardless of age.

I’ve mentioned before that one of my favorite things about Andy Samberg is that he’s really, really good at making awesome and/or ugly faces. I don’t think Samberg’s a bad-looking guy by any means, but his exaggerated features enable him to twist his face in ways that would draw envy from even the most talented facial contortionists. When I think of guys who are great at making faces - which is somewhat of a lost “art” these days - I think of Jim Carrey, Bill Hader, and Andy Samberg. In terms of faces, Samberg probably cracks me up the most.

I’ve assembled a rather impressive gallery of photos that show Samberg doing what he does best. After the jump, enjoy some of the most ridiculous Andy Samberg faces you’ll ever see.

Here’s Andy making a pretty sweet face alongside Kenan Thompson and Fred Armisen. A good face is made even better when the people around you in a photograph are smiling normally.

Even criminal mastermind Martha Stewart can’t stop Andy from making awesome faces.

Andy acting like a jacka$$ with some fans. Not a great face, but good enough to make this picture funny.

[EDitor: Actually, this is just a look-alike fan at a Halloween party. So this fan gets the last laugh.]

Thumb-wrestling face.

A very quality staring-out-into-space face.

Andy as Dustin Diamond on Weekend Update.

Some pants-ji@@ing action, accompanied by a great face.

Andy seems to really like his new purse.

Pretty sweet vampire face.

Andy in Hot Rod making stupid faces while playing with his toys.

Craig Robinson and Joanna Newsome also appreciate a good Samberg face.

Wow. I think we have a winner.

[EDitor: From his intro video when hosting the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Thanks Anony!]

Not really a face per se, but this photo shows how animated Samberg is when he’s doing pretty much anything.

What's your favorite Andy Samberg face?

Next two hosts of SNL: Charles Barkley & Sigourney Weaver

"SNL" is back on Jan. 9 with former NBA star Charles Barkley as the host. The "round mound of rebound" is known now for his great sense of humor in commercials and on the golf course.

This won't be his first time hosting, either -- Barkley hosted the 1993 season premiere of "SNL" with musical guest Nirvana. Joining Barkley for his second go-round is musical guest Alicia Keys, hopefully performing new songs from her album "The Element of Freedom," which dropped on Dec. 15.

For the Jan. 16 show, "Avatar" star Sigourney Weaver joins studio 8H, along with musical guest The Ting Tings, who are nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy.

We have two requests -- "SNL" star Kenan Thompson does a mean Charles Barkley impression so we'd like to see that, please. And if there isn't a Sigourney Weaver "Ghostbusters" sketch, we are going to be extremely upset. We don't care if they already covered it when she hosted in 1986 -- we'd like to see it again.

Charles Barkley was a basketball player in the NBA (84-2000) on the 76ers, Suns, and Rockets. He was part of the US Olympic Dream Team in 92, and he led the US to Olympic gold again in 96. Now what Barkley is known for is being a studio analyst for TNT's NBA coverage. He also hosts the TNT show, Inside the NBA.

What do you think? Charles and Kenan would be funny. I know TLI could write a fun Ghostbusters skit for Sigourney. Of course, there's going to be an Avatar skit as well. What could Andy do with them?

Incredibad - Sidedown's #6 Album of 2009

#6 Album of 2009: The Lonely Island

What can I saw about Incredibad other than that I wish it was twice as long? The quality of parody/comedy music has never been this high.

As you likely know by now, The Lonely Island is Akiva Schaffer, SNL's Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone. Much of their music was written for the SNL Digital Shorts, which have easily been the best thing about Saturday Night Live over the last few years. Incredibad is not only hilarious but musically accessible, with high production values and a slew of ridiculous guests like Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Natalie Portman, Jack Black, and more. Hearing Norah Jones sing about Chex Mix™ and mistaking a woman for a bag of trash is priceless.

The "classics" are on this album, including "Natalie's Rap" and "Lazy Sunday" (The Chronicle of Narnia)...

The album comes with a bonus DVD of some of the SNL shorts...

Hands down, this is the funniest album of the year, and I hope to hear more from The Lonely Island in the future.
